UT to open GLBT Resource Center this month

Courtesy of lgbt.utk.eduA new resource center for the GLBT community and allies will open at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville on Feb. 25.

Some students and officials at UT said the center has been needed for quite a while and expect it will allow GLBT students to feel more comfortable on campus, according to a report on the school’s news Web site.

The center will be located at Melrose F103, University of Tennessee Campus in Knoxville, and will be open to everyone in the Knoxville community with a focus on issues surrounding the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community.

The center is currently hosting a counselor-led, discussion-based GLBTQ support group every Tuesday from 5-6 p.m. The support group provides a safe place for all students, especially those questioning their sexuality, to openly discuss any life issues.

Any comments or suggestions should be discussed with Lynn Sacco, who can be reached at lsacco@utk.edu . The center is currently accepting all donations, especially books, DVDs, and furniture.
