Valentine's Day is Friday and we know you're busy so O&AN has come up with 14 gay ways to help celebrate the holiday. And before you say: what if I am single, most of these Valentine's suggestions can be done either as singles or couples . . . or thrupples, if that is your Valentine's wish. Let's get to the heart of it.
14) Kenny Rogers at The Schermerhorn
He may have sung "The Gambler," but there is no gamble when Kenny Rogers takes the stage for not one night, but two nights with The Nashville Symphony. Expect hit after hit during this Valentine's love fest. Tickets are still available for both Friday, February 14 and Saturday, February 15 and can be purchased here.
13) Buy your State Representative a Valentine from TTPC
For the third year in a row, the Tennessee Transgender Political Coalition offers you a chance to buy your State Senator and State Representative hand written Valentine’s Day Cards. There are four choices of messages, and this year, we even provide you chance to buy a Valentine for every member of the Senate or House of Representative, or both.
You can purchase your 2014 Valentine’s Day Cards on the TTPC website but deadline is Tuesday, February 11.
12) Pink Panty Pull Down with Music City Sisters
Get your heart on with the Music City Sisters Of Perpetual Indulgence at the Stirrup Nashville for some post Valentine Day fun! We will be auctioning the underwear right off of some of Nashville's hot men, featuring some of the hotties from the Nashville Grizzlies RFC!! We will have a $10 keg and Jello Shots will be going fast. RSVP for the event here.
QDP celebrates their second year with QDProm at Mercy Lounge. And with planned party favor giveaways to the first arrivals, as well as some handmade treats at the photo booth and 80s cover band playing your favorite Whitney, Cyndi, and Wham! jams (and then some), QDP is pulling out all the stops. Get your tickets here.
It's a go-to date idea for Valentine's Day so why not make reservations at one of the 2013 O&AN Gay Faves Dining winners. Voted 'Gay Faves First Date Restaurant' Suzy Wong's House of Yum or 'Gay Faves Fine Dining' the LGBT-owned Margot's are just two selections worth checking out for Valentine's Day. Then top off your dinner with the many love fest movies showing this week, including Winter's Tale. You can even win a romantic gift pack in our Winter's Tale sweepstakes here.
9) Post Office Party with HotMess Dodgeball at Tribe
Who says Dodgeball isn't all about the love? Forget getting hit upside the head as a kid and join HotMess Dodgeball to 'find your true love or at least love for the night' at Tribe Nashville. RSVP to the event here. All proceeds benefit HRC Nashville.
8) Sex, Dreams & Self Control
In 2009, Kevin Thornton's one-man show Sex, Dreams & Self Control played to packed houses. Named Nashville Scene's 'Best One-Man Show' in 2010, Thornton took his performances nationwide, landing himself a spot on NPR's All Things Considered.
After nearly 4 years since touring nationally, Thornton decided to revive his show one a series of limited performances at OutCentral. Playing this Saturday, February 15, tickets are $10 in advance and can be purchased here.
7) Show love for TEP
It takes support to do everything Tennessee Equality Project is doing in the state of Tennessee, including the upcoming 10th Equality Day on the Hill March 11, so why not show them some love and make a donation in the name of your partner (or self) this week? Make your donation here.
6) Cupid's Undie Run
Cupid’s Undie Run is a mile(ish) run in your bedroom-best on Valentine’s weekend. No, they’re not crazy, just crazy serious about raising money for The Children’s Tumor Foundation. The Nashville event is held February 15 at Tin Roof and entry can be purchased here.
5) Get Tested
There is noting sexier than knowing your status so drop by one of Nashville's many resources including Nashville CARES and Project Uno at OutCentral during their testing hours and get yourself tested for Valentine's Day.
4) Girl on Girl Comedy
Girl on Girl Comedy & Revue is a comedy series featuring the best regional female and LGBT comics and performers. The monthly show takes place at Zanies and this month's show takes place just before V-Day. So if you need a laugh, grab tickets in advance here.
3) Spice up the bedroom with a trip to Miranda’s
If we gleaned anything from the O&AN Sexy Survey, it's that our readers have healthy sex lives. So why not try something new and adventurous by heading over to Miranda's and spicing up the bedroom. This suggestion can be combined with any of the other 13 or a night all its own.
2) Try your luck online
1) Help 11 Tennessee couples win their dream wedding
In December O&AN announced that the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) was running a nationwide contest called My Big Gay (Il)legal Wedding through Feb. 16. My Big Gay (Il)legal weddings teams the ACLU up with Tim Gunn to "highlight the unfair patchwork of state marriage laws and why it's so important for everyone to have the freedom to marry."
Voted on by the public, the top five couples will receive $5,000 for the best ideas for how they plan to cross state lines to get married. Although 11 Tennessee couples are competing, one East Tennessee couple, Megan Smith and Lindsey Wagoner, currently are in fifth place and need your votes to stay there and win.
