Watkins Graphic Design students win the most ADDYs


Graphic Design students from Watkins College of Art&Design won the most ADDY awards at the 7th District Advertising Federation Competition in Knoxville. Out of 897 entries, 34 were selected for the coveted ADDY award. Of those 34 awards, Watkins received nine, the highest number obtained by any college at the competition. Watkins students competed against advertising and design majors at such institutions as the Atlanta Art Institute, Creative Circus, Loyola University, the University of Alabama, Belmont University, and the University of Southern Mississippi, to name a few.

Gold Award winners are Katie Bean deSouza (Red, White & Blush stationery package), Lauren Young (AREA magazine feature spread), Laura Holder (Tempting Fate Daily illustration) and Katy Oss (Viagra ad campaign). Silver Award winners are Rachel Davenport (Songs my Grandmother Sang CD package), Sarah Chafin (Time Warp Toys stationery package), Katie Bean deSouza (Belly Dancing Festival poster), Elizabeth Flesher (Watkins ad), Lori Wilson (Spider logo).

Special cash awards such as Best of Show will be announced on Saturday, April 16 at 7:30 am at the Student Breakfast presentation at the 7th District Conference taking place at the Marriott Hotel in Knoxville. All of the other student awards will be presented, as well.

All nine award-winning entries will be automatically forwarded to the first-ever National Student ADDY Competition. Winners will be announced at the National American Advertising Federation Convention taking place in Nashville, June 4-6, at the Opryland Hotel.
