Out & About Nashville, Inc. (O&AN) is seeking a part-time contract publication/graphic designer. This is approximately 40 hours per month and works under the direction of the print managing editor.
Work includes the production and layout of a monthly LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) magloid format publication. O&AN is Tennessee’s largest and only state-wide LGBT publication and has been in business for 11 years.
The publication designer will is required to be proficient in Quark/InDesign and Photoshop and Illustrator. If you have production/layout experience and a solid grasp of setting up style sheets and master pages, solid pre-press and pre-flighting skills, then apply now.
Monthly work will begin around the end of the third week of the month and includes preparing a 40 to 56 page magloid publication, working with the advertising sales manager and placing ads per ad schedule, moving ads around and rotating them from front to back; working with managing editor on story order, copy flow and general design and layout. Make backup copies of each monthly publication files.
A flexible attitude, willingness to jump in and help is required. Candidate must be able to meet deadlines and because breaking news often happens, work in a quick pace, stressful environment.
Candidate must have own equipment and software. Candidate may work from anywhere, but must be available during production to consult with the managing print editor via phone, skype or other means of electronic communication. Candidate must also participate in a monthly staff/brainstorming session via one of the means above.

This position pays a flat $500 per month.
