The Tennessee Transgender Political Coalition (TTPC) will hold their semi-annual Statewide Membership Meeting in Nashville on Saturday, Jan. 22 at 6 p.m. The organization will elect officers for 2010 and discuss priorities for the year.
In the next year, TTPC will be working to educate the public and members of Congress about the importance of the Federal Employment Non Discrimination Act (ENDA) which will ban discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression in the workplace.
At the state level, they will concentrate on securing passage of both their Hate Crimes bill, which will add gender identity or expression to Tennessee’s Hate Crimes statute, along with repealing Tennessee’s ban on gender changes on birth certificates.
Local efforts will focus on the adoption of a non-discrimination ordinance in Memphis which would ban discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression. TTPC will also work on expansion of the ordinance in Metro Nashville to cover government vendors and contractors.
Those interested in attending the meeting can contact TTPC for directions.
