McFadden’s Restaurant & Saloon has been welcoming GLBT patrons with ‘Boys Night Out’ on Monday nights for several weeks.
Now, the (mostly) straight establishment is stepping up its GLBT outreach with plans to host a NOH8 photo shoot on Monday, Feb. 1.
Tyler Parrish, manger at McFadden’s, is organizing the event to contribute to the PSA of renowned photographer Adam Bouska who’s garnered participation from hundreds of celebrities and leaders for the campaign for equality.
"Boys Night Out has always tried to represent itself as a ‘straight friendly’ gay night where people could co-mingle," Parrish said. "This would be a way for gay people to continue expressing their lack of effective representation and for pro-gay straight people to say, ‘I’m straight and I approve this message.’"
Parrish said Bouska is not planned to appear at the event, but photos will be taken for free and posted online by the people behind Gonecity.com and will also be sent to the NOH8 campaign Web site noh8campaign.com.
The event will run from 8 p.m. through 3 a.m. that night with $5 drink specials until 10 p.m.
Parrish said the event will give people a chance to take a definitive stance on the gay-rights issue.
"I think it’s one thing to stand there and say, ‘Sure, I’m tolerant. I have gay friends,’ but this is a way for us to step out and show people that we believe in gay rights, are willing to do something about it, and are not afraid to let people know," Parrish said.
McFadden’s is located at 134 2nd Ave. North.
