Tennessee Women’s Theater Project opens its fourth season on Thursday, Oct. 1 with the U.S. professional premiere of Unravelling the Ribbon, by the Irish playwrights Mary Kelly and Maureen White. The play is a tender, often hilarious exploration of three women in various stages of their lives. Unravelling the Ribbon tells a moving – and funny – tale of friendship and survival.
TWTP founder and artistic director Maryanna Clarke describes the process of choosing Unravelling the Ribbon. “I often ask, If theater is meant to hold up a mirror to nature, why are there not as many women’s faces in that reflection as I see around me? I read dozens and dozens of plays in search of memorable women characters whose stories express the human condition in the female voice.”
Tennessee Women’s Theater Project’s professional productions are funded in part by grants from the Tennessee and Metropolitan Nashville Arts Commissions, as well as the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee and the Ann & Kurt Lance Krafft Trust, along with many individual donors.
