Nashville in Harmony, the city’s GLBT-and-friends chorus, is beginning a new season on September 11 and we are inviting everyone to sing with us.
This is a great time to start. After a successful inaugural year, there’s an excitement about some fresh changes at the beginning of a new season. The group has asked me to be the interim director for the fall season, and we’re already planning for an entertaining and enjoyable holiday concert.
In addition to some choral gems, repertoire selections will include light holiday arrangements, pop songs, show tunes, and a sparkling tribute to Mozart’s 250th birthday.
Two things are important to me as we start this new season: First, that our work be enjoyable as well as musically rewarding, which means that our rehearsals will be fun and fast-paced as well as challenging. Second, that we discover our unique niche in Nashville ’s musical culture. In other words, I believe that Nashville in Harmony can have a voice in our community that no other chorus can.
We welcome anyone interested to sing with us. Nashville in Harmony is a city chorus for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people, and their friends and supporters. The group brings Nashvillians together, regardless of sexual or gender orientation. When we sing together, we transcend our differences and celebrate our diversity.
Auditions, which are really just vocal interviews, will include singing, pitch matching, and sight reading, and will be held on Tuesday, September 6, and Thursday, September 8, from 7:00 to 8:30 , at the First Unitarian Universalist Church of Nashville, 1808 Woodmont Boulevard . No preparation is necessary. For more information, or to schedule an audition, email Susan at firstname.lastname@example.org or call 615-331-9261.
