It was a hard, almost impossible decision, for the Nashville Pride Board to come to terms with having to postpone or cancel the June festival. Ultimately, however, they did what they thought was best for the community and organization, cancelling the physical festival for now in favor of an online experience in June and working to plan a physical event later in the year.

“Given the unprecedented circumstances we find ourselves in, the Pride Board of Directors made the decision to postpone our annual celebration and create a virtual experience for our community during our traditional Pride month of June,” said Paula Foster, Nashville Pride’s current president. “Our number one goal is to ensure the health and safety of our community. We hope to instill the spirit of celebration through our online Pride Live events that will carry us all through until we can literally meet again.”

Last week, the Nashville Pride Board of Directors unveiled a slate of virtual and digital experiences to celebrate [email protected] presented by AllianceBernstein throughout the month of June. Weekly live streams including Sing Me A Song, a multi song performance by local and regional singer/songwriters, Pride Live, a variety hour focused on live entertainment, interviews, cooking and more, and Absolut-ely Fabulous Cocktails, where a local LGBTQI+ bartender will showcase how to make a simple, yet stunning cocktail to enjoy at home, will be presented weekly throughout the month.

Now, an online vendor marketplace has gone online, featuring a number of local artisans and businesses. Through the marketplace you can learn more about and support the artisans and businesses that generally participate in the annual festival. Some vendors have uploaded special “booth tours” or promotional videos, like the one below from Skull & Bones.

Asked about the early response to the vendor market, Jack Davis, whose Good Neighbor Festivals organizes Nashville Pride, said, “The [email protected] online marketplace has received a lot of interest from both vendors and the general public. The marketplace is a great way to support the organizations that support Pride at the festival and all year long. Many of the vendors have video messages that celebrate pride and showcase many of the locally made goods that festival goers enjoy.”

Nashville Pride will be encouraging people to show their Pride throughout the month of June by flying Pride flags, decorating yards, balconies, windows, cars, and storefronts to showcase pride throughout the city. You can purchase a pride themed yard sign and much more on the pride website.

Nashville Pride will also be participating in Global Pride, an online event where Pride Organizations around the world will come together for a virtual global Pride. The event is set to take place on Saturday June 27th. Global Pride is the result of a collaboration between InterPride, a global federation of Pride organizations, and the European Pride Organisers Association. More details will be released over the next few weeks.

As for the possibility of the fall festival, a lot is still up in the air. A second wave could prevent a Pride event from coming together. However, Foster said, “We hope to create a Pride celebration in the Fall, we are working on a number of different scenarios. We are still in the planning phases and still have a lot to work to do before moving forward. Nashville Pride is committed to creating a celebration for our community in 2020. What that will look like is still in the works.”
