After the much-ballyhooed opening of Providence MarketPlace, the South’s largest open-air shopping facility, another opening of sorts is set for this week in this bedroom community of 21,000 just east of Davidson County.
On Friday, July 21, 2006 theatre-goers will find yet another option on the cultural horizon—the Encore Theatre Company, Inc., will make it’s debut at Our Place Restaurant, 4066 N. Mt. Juliet Road, with its inaugural production of Jack Sharkey’s two-act spoof on the Agatha Christie/mystery genre, "The Murder Room."
Directed by theatre veteran Joel Meriwether, former artistic director of the now-defunct Razors Edge Productions, "The Murder Room" promises plentiful sight-gags, trap doors and other contraptions that get gloriously mucked-up, red-herring plot devices that go nowhere, and hysterical, over-the-top, characterizations by the six experienced actors that make up the cast of "The Murder Room." Critics have called this comedy "inspired lunacy with a bit of Monty Python and the Marx Brothers thrown in for good measure."
Performances, which begin this weekend, and continue through August 6, are combined with a plated dinner, being catered by Our Place Restaurant, and served on Fridays and Saturdays at 6:30pm and on Sundays at 1:30pm. Theatre-goers will have their choice of either prime rib or chicken; there are vegetarian options, as well. Tickets are $25.00 and can be purchased by calling the theatre box office at 598-8950 or purchased online at the theatre website: www.encore-theatre-company.org.
