In the 2019 Davidson County Metro Council elections there was an historic wave of seven LGBTQ candidates. That election cycle again made history when two LGBTQ incumbents won their seats and were joined by three new LGBTQ members. This means that out LGBTQ representation comprises 12.5% of the Metropolitan Nashville City Council.

The five LGBTQ Metro Nashville councilmembers met on October 5, 2019, and formed a body known as the “LGBTQ Caucus of the Nashville and Davidson County Metropolitan Council”. At this first meeting, the LGBTQ Caucus members selected their Chair, Vice-Chair, and Secretary:

•Chair: Councilmember Nancy VanReece, District 8

•Vice-Chair: Councilmember Brett Withers, District 6

•Secretary:  Councilmember Russ Bradford, District 13

•Additional members: Councilmembers Zach Young, District 10, and Councilmember Emily Benedict, District 7
