Carl Smith, Senior Lecturer in Music Theory at the Blair School of Music, will lead a narrated showing of the award-winning film Brokeback Mountain on Sunday, Oct. 14, comparing themes in the movie to themes in Scripture and classic Greek epics.
Smith will examine the symbolism, iconography, metaphor and mythology in Ang Lee’s film. The evening will include a narrated showing of this powerful contemporary work of cinematic art, highlighting its extraordinary religious and mythological subtexts.
The lecture will take place in the sanctuary of Second Presbyterian Church, 3511 Belmont Boulevard in Green Hills, beginning at 7:00 p.m.
The showing is free and open to the public.
