With cold weather still here this month, why not have a cozy night in with a friend or loved one while enjoying a batch of this herb-infused hot chocolate for two? And if you have a larger crowd to entertain, this recipe scales up easily. This is a rich, calming treat perfect for an evening in front of the fire or snuggled up on the couch.
3 cups milk (I used oat milk)
1 tsp lavender buds
2 tsp rose petals
4 cardamom pods
splash of rose water (optional)
3 oz chocolate, chopped fine
Place all ingredients in a saucepan, except the chocolate. Warm over medium heat, removing from burner before the milk begins to simmer.
Cover with a lid and allow the herbs to infuse for 10-15 minutes.
Strain out the herbs, and return the milk to your pan. Add the chopped chocolate and continue warming the milk, stirring with a whisk. Again, adjust the heat as needed so that the milk doesn’t simmer or come to a boil.
Once the chocolate is melted through and incorporated into the milk, remove from heat and pour into mugs.
Optional toppings: whipped cream or marshmallows, chocolate shavings, crushed rose petals, a dash of cinnamon.
