Things are heating up in Nashville and it’s not just the summer weather that is well on its way. With Nashville Pride just over two weeks away plus Knoxville Pride, Bonnaroo and CMA Music Fest looming on the horizon, June is going to kick off one helluva hot summer. But just because it isn’t officially June until Saturday, doesn’t mean there isn’t plenty to do around town. Get your O&AN GLBT Best Bets for 5/29 – 6/4:

Nothing like a humpday Hakuna Matata. Hakuna Matata? It means no worrieeeeeeessss for the res—okay so maybe that was a bit off-key but you get the point. These are the final days to catch Disney’s The Lion King at TPAC. Runs through June 2. Get tickets here.

Two Words. David Sedaris. The poignant and humorous author of such books as Naked, Me Talk Pretty One Day and Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim makes a stop Friday at Parnassus Books in Nashville as part of his current book tour. Sedaris is promoting his latest collection of essays Let’s Explore Diabetes with Owls Essays Etc.. Whether Sedaris is remarking on the international interest he witnessed during the 2008 elections or weaving a story from elements of his trip to Australia, the Kookaburra and a sing-song night with his sister Amy, the fact is you’ll see someone you know in all of Sedaris’ stories. While seats for the reading are no longer available, there will be standing outside and Sedaris will sign books following the sold out reading. Reading starts at 6:00 p.m.. Saturday, June 1 kicks off what is sure to be a busy month. Ever wonder what a bear look likes wet? Well, we can’t promise you’ll find out but we sure hope so when the Nashville Grizzlies host their Annual Car Wash from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Lipstick Lounge. It’s their final show of this season, but don’t worry Nashville in Harmony will be back bigger and better than ever with their 10th season just around the corner. She knows how to work a bat. She knows how to field a ball … or balls. Who is she? Well, find out this year when the Metro Nashville Softball Association crowns its Miss MNSA 2013. Players from MNSA teams will compete in a drag competition to be the best of the best. Show starts at 7 p.m. at Play Dance Bar.
