Gay Church Goes Mainstream

What some would call an alternative church is now going main-stream. What makes them different? Almost the entire congregation is gay.

Nashville’s Holy Trinity Community Church has now joined affiliations with the United Church of Christ, the only mainline denomination to ordain openly gay ministers.

One look inside, and it’s an evangelical Christian church like most. But, there is one major difference. The pastor of the church is gay and so are nearly all of her 250 members.

Although the services at Holy Trinity Church rarely mention sexual orientation, the knowledge of acceptance is enough for the member to keep their faith in God and the church.

The pastor started this church ten years ago with a bible study of about 8 people. Over the years, it has grown to two Sunday services.

The official ceremony affiliating the United Church of Christ with Holy Trinity will take place on June 25th.
