DNC chair cancels Nashville meeting

Terry McAuliffe, chairman of the Democratic National Committee, has canceled what would have been his first visit to Tennessee this year, with officials citing “a rapidly changing schedule.”

McAuliffe was scheduled to be in Tennessee this coming Thursday and Friday. Eric Stern, director of the office of GLBT outreach of the Democratic National Committee (DNC), said he would not be coming to Nashville, and that it was “unclear if he’s coming to Tennessee.”

The last time McAuliffe visited Tennessee was July 22, 2001.

“The cancellation was related to a rapidly changing schedule on behalf of the chairman,” Stern said. “We are committed to doing an event in Nashville with the GLBT community.”

Had the visit occurred, it would have marked the first time a DNC chairman had met with Nashville’s gay community.
