Few people I’ve ever met are as serious about Pride as Ron Sanford. And so when he learned that Pride was being postponed and going virtual, Ron set out to fill the “Pride gap”, creating an event he calls “A Rainbow Celebration”—a Pride weekend drag-stravaganza. The main event is hosted out of PLAY Nashville, and will begin around 3:00 p.m. (doors open at PLAY at 2:30 p.m., and there’s no cover ’til 8 p.m.) on Saturday, June 27, 2020, and will run ’til around 3:00 a.m.
How did this idea take shape? “This concept originated from the COVID-19 Pandemic when most Pride’s were to be postponed or cancelled. This Live Streaming event seemed to be an exciting way to celebrate Pride 2020,” Ron explained.
The logistics for this show, which includes bars and other venues in multiple time zones, all being professionally live-streamed, have made the event a fluid concept. “Coupled with the creation of the National Drag Museum, we knew that this was going to be a huge challenge. This has proven to be true! We have been working with bars and clubs all over the nation. Due to each state and cities being in different phases and with the continued rise in Covin-19 cases, we are continuing to add to our schedule each and every day.”
Recent events have also reshaped the event’s fundraising direction. Originally set at $5.00, streaming prices have been raised to $10.00, in order to provide support not only to the National Drag Museum, but also Black Lives Matter and charities serving the trans community.
