A familiar face to greet IGRA visitors at Hotel Preston

Michael Hagewood and his staff at The Hotel Preston will be doing whatever they can to make the GLBT visitors for the International Gay Rodeo Association as comfortable as possible.

Hagewood, who is the front office manager for Hotel Preston, knows Nashville’s GLBT community as well as anyone. Before coming to the hotel, he was manager of Play Dance Bar, Nashville’s largest “everybody friendly” dance club.

“I think the IGRA visitors will find that the Hotel Preston is very gay friendly,” Hagewood said. “And we want to make sure that we make our guests as comfortable as possible.”

Hagewood and his staff are responsible for overseeing accommodations – from check-in to check-out and everything in between. That includes guest services for group needs like transportation, and dinning recommendations.

He has been at Hotel Preston since December 2005. He managed Play Dance Bar for a year and half before that. But, the hotel industry was “in his blood” and he felt a calling to return to that career.

“I had been employed at Loews Vanderbilt Hotel for several years before I went to manage Play,” Hagewood said. “I really missed the hotel industry and working with the guests. Plus, working in the nightclub arena you have some really long nights. I was looking forward to a regular workday schedule.”

It’s a decision he doesn’t regret. He said he felt the Hotel Preston was “a diamond in the rough in Nashville”.

“It’s a great boutique hotel,” he said. “It’s really cool, hip and trendy. We’re not only gay friendly but pet friendly. We welcome everyone from the GLBT community to check us out.”
